Levon Williams is the Curator of Collections and Registrar at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. As a life long hip hop fan, Levon was listening to Stax music long before he even realized it; Stax was being sampled by many of his favorite hip hop artists. After seeing a DVD of the 1972 Wattstax festival, he was hooked. He dug deep learning the stories behind the music and eventually landed his current job helping preserve the history of Stax Records. A year after relocating from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Levon says he can see that the culture that birthed Stax back in the 60s is still alive and well in Memphis.
