Hi and welcome to the Radio Control Show. I’m Hope McCall.
This past weekend, the toughest competitors in off-road racing were at the Texas Motor Speedway. This was the series opener of the Traxxas Off-Road Championship Series, otherwise known as TORC. TORC is the short-course racing series and features the nation’s top tracks and RC’s fastest drivers. Watch how Mike and Mark Jenkins from the Traxxas racing team and the competition tear their way through the course!
Broadcasts of the eight-round TORC series will be on national television beginning in June. To see if TORC is headed to a raceway near you and for more footage, head to rc car action dot com.
The Model Airplane News editors are really having fun with the new Piper PA-12, a 1/8-scale ARF from Pilot-1. It’s constructed of laser-cut balsa and plywood and is covered in a really eye-catching Oracover finish. This is a perfect beginner plane and it comes out of the box about 90-perent ready to go. The Piper PA-12 can be a great summertime choice to put in your car fully assembled and head to the field!

A hot product the Car editors are excited about this week is the Havoc 3S Ballistic 8.5 Brushless System. Novak has created the ultimate high-speed system by pairing a high-caliber speed control with a mega-fast brushless motor. It can run on either two or three cell LiPos and is the perfect fit for 1/10 scale off- and on-road vehicles. The list of innovative features is way too long to talk about here, so be sure to read all about it on teamnovak.com
In a special “Project Slayer versus Slayer” feature, Matt Higgins and Brandon Wilcox duke it out over these short-course racers. Brandon believed that the Slayer’s 3.3 nitro engine should stay where it was… Matt argued that electric was the way to go. To settle their differences over the same truck, they went head-to-head and made a project out of it. Look at this week’s special video pick and decide for yourself who came out on top.
For an in-depth look at “Project Slayer versus Slayer,” check out RC Car Action’s special Desert & Off Road issue or head to the Members Only section at rc car action dot com slash m o. Model Airplane News was recently a proud team sponsor of the Texas A&M AeroDesign team for this year’s Society of Automotive Engineers Heavy-Lift Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. The challenge for this competition was to design an RC aircraft that can lift as much weight as possible and take off in 200 feet, land in 400 feet and have a combined wingspan, height and length that doesn’t exceed 175 inches.
