55 years after the Voting Rights Act, voter suppression efforts range from the seemingly unobstructive, like voter ID laws and cuts to early voting, to mass purges of voter rolls and systemic disenfranchisement. But how did we get here? Elaine Weiss, award-winning journalist and writer, author of “The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote,” Dennis Patrick Halpin, PhD, professor of history at Virginia Tech, author of “A Brotherhood of Liberty: Black Reconstruction and Its Legacies in Baltimore, 1865–1920,” and Nicole Hanson-Mundell, Executive Director of Out for Justice, Inc. discuss the enduring barriers to voting in America, from the 15th and 19th Amendments to today.
