After «Amman - City in Motion» (vimeo.com/46847325) this video about a part of the vast landscape of Wadi Rum is the second of four time lapse videos shot in Jordan this July. The whole project was shot and edited for the Jordan Tourism Board.
Some background: Shooting the desert in the mid of July was quite a challenge. It was very hot, even at night. And it was quite dusty. During the 2 days of shooting I've tried to capture images of the majestic rock formations but also people enjoying desert live for a glimpse of a few hours on a jeep trip or on the back of a camel. A highlight was the balloon trip shown at the end of the clip. I was lucky enough that weather conditions allowed a short flight with experienced balloon pilot Khaled Shishani and other passengers during my short stay. The opening scene was shot at around 2 pictures per second with a Canon G12 mounted on the roof of a car driving very slowly. Another scene shows a traditional beduin way to prepare meat in underground stove filmed at Captains Camp.
Equipment used for the Wadi Rum video: Canon 7D, Canon G12 and Panasonic GH2, a set of lenses, a GoPro 2 and two tripods. Rendered and edited in After Effects, Motion and Final Cut Pro X. Many of the time-lapse scenes were further accelerated in post. Blur effects all added in post (no tilt-shift lenses).
