This is a video of how I make my ink drawings using a machine I made myself with rewired parts of several revolving household appliances. There's a lot going on here: muscle control, colour choice, thinking of how to build layers, pressure of applied colour, and changing the variable speed on the remote (which you can see in my left hand) to ensure the ink is applied evenly throughout the drawing. It's hypnotic and challenging at the same time. And pleasures too: the bloom of colour rapidly applied, the rasp of nib against paper, the pleasing clicks of the caps of the pens. The joy of completion. And the look of the finished drawing - always unique no matter how many I make! This was filmed by the amazing artist Jessica Bell (http://www.jessicabellart.com/home.html).
