Official Selection Dance On Camera 2013
Official Selection Loikka 2013
In the era when minuett was danced in little villages of Finland, was time when meeting opposite sex happened very discreet. Showing your feelings openly was not appropriate neither a physical contact. Men and women met when dancing minuett, rigid as people from finnish woods do. Only physical touch was a modest handholding - all the rumbling feelings had to be culminated on this.
Some background for this project:
A known finnish folk musician Marianne Maans came to me with an idea of composing a new minuett basing on Ostrobothnia-regions traditional minuet music and dance, also using ancient finnish instrument jouhikko (bowed lyre). Marianne played the song with Maria Kalaniemi and Lauri Antila. She asked me to make a film about this Sålunda Menuett. With choreographer Mia Wiik we made this interpretation.
