The fountain at M&A creates a veil - a soft boundary between the street and the exhibition courtyard. The scenario invites viewers in Copenhagen to look through the veil at the courtyard beyond. They are still separated, but the boundary is soft and easy to penetrate.

M&A (LA) vs. IHI (Herlev): Soft boundaries
Jenna Didier, founder and director of the front garden exhibition space Materials & Applications(M&A) in Los Angeles, and Anja Franke, founder and director of the front garden exhibition space InstantHERLEV institute, will televise live from their spaces via skype morning and evening. Both spaces are private homes that have opened up their front yards as public venues to exhibit art and architecture, softening the boundary between public and private. Both feature water: in LA, the fountain is rainwater fed – a precious resource, in Herlev there is too much water; the fountains mirror each other and display the reverse scenarios of each site.
