"Can we build artificially intelligent chemists?"
a talk given by Peter Murray-Rust on at his Herman Skolnik award by the American Chemical Society 2012-08-21 in Philadelphia PA US.
Weak AI is often delivered by connecting a large number of subtasks, and chemistry is well suited. Here we show the translation of written chinese chemical names into chemical structures. There is a 1000-page rulebook (from IUPAC, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_nomenclature ) which is completely deterministic and covers essentially all chemicals (whether known or unknown).
