The group then travelled to Armenia, where 90% of Colombian coffee is produced. They toured one of the area’s coffee plantations in Salento owned by a man named Jesus. Here, the teams were shown the entire process of this coffee factory, starting from feeling the soil, to sorting the coffee, roasting the beans and lessons in quality control. What more could you ask for after learning the processes than to sample the finished product which Erminio deemed “the best coffee you’ve ever had in your life!”. Price fluctuations in Colombia mean that sometimes it costs the grower more to produce the coffee than they can sell it for. So for the last 5 years they have being going backwards, while franchises in developed countries are making a fortune. CCN are now looking into ways to rebalance that situation by planning to make our way into the coffee business.
