Carlos Johnson was born in Alton, MO, between Poplar Bluff and West Plains. Isolina was born in El Salvador, and immigrated to San Francisco in the early 1940s. They met in a shipyard there where both were employed, Carlos as a metal worker, and Isolina as a welder. After World War II ended, they moved to Missouri where Carlos worked as a union ironworker on projects such as Northwest Plaza and the Callaway Nuclear Plant. They made their home in Bridgeton where they raised a family. Carlos passed away not long after this video was made.
