This year, the French Wakesurfing Association and Talloires Lac d’Annecy are once again organizing the "King of the Lake Wakesurf Contest".
Organized by and for lovers of wakesurfing, the King of the Lake is the largest wakesurfing competition in Europe and competitors come from all around the world (USA, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, England, Canada, ...and of course France) to take part. Set in the idyllic French Alps on the beautiful Lake Annecy, the contest takes place on September 8th and 9th 2012 at Angon beach in Talloires.
The sport of wakesurfing is based on the same feeling as its big brother, surfing. However, the main difference is that the wave is created by a boat instead of naturally. Wakesurfing also has the freestyle discipline where you use the wave to do tricks that come from a variety of board sports such as skateboarding, skimboarding and surfing. The felling is very similar to surfing on the ocean; no ties, no rope and guaranteed thrills.
The venue has become throughout the years the most important wakesurf competition in Europe. It was therefore just a matter of time before it would become the first official European competition, which it has last year. The development of wakesurfing and the general raising of the level were in fact calling for that kind of competition, missing in Europe.
The 2012 edition will be a two days venue. All the information can be found and registrations form are downloadable on the website of the event kingofthelake.fr.
