For this story, Channel One reporter Steven Fabian and I flew out to Denver -- the major media were all there. In the parking lot of the memorial four satellite trucks stood in a row with burly cameramen scouting spots for live-shots. And here Steven and I come with our rinky-dink camera and tripod. But that's the name of the game these days -- and we just focused on working hard.
For this story, we had to shoot interviews, script, subclip and send back all the elements within a 24hr period. And we did it -- from a Starbucks! For tracking, I used the advice of an NPR reporter and recorded Steven in the car. (It sounded great.)
We came away with a great package -- edited back in NYC by colleague, Nick Capote. And it was an overall great shooting experience for digital journalism working on day-of-air packages in the field.
