This version (29 September 2021) is at its final state. I have a number of ideas for a complete redo, starting by developing this as individual sections, then either putting them together into one video or running them as a playlist. But, at this point, the project is too unwieldy as I've been doing it leading to a number of areas which need rearranging or to not useful repetitions.
So, I am done for now. I intend to redo this, smaller and more compact and may add a diversity and appropriations video with a real history. They are really companion overlapping themes.

Shooting dance rejects the usual equipment-heavy emphasis, though I spend a lot of time with shooting. The most important camera "equipment" you have is your knowledge of the subject. And I mean in your body. Researching text and video doesn't begin to get to the core of shooting like actual physical learning of the subject you are shooting.
I added about a 12-minute "preface" a couple of editions ago, to set the ground and introduce concepts for later in the video.
I also go over, and beat to death, a couple of shooting methods which are persistent, ubiquitous and taught in schools and classes but wrong (because they are not examined).
1 - persistence of vision (disproved by 1911)
2 - continuous (motor drive) still shooting - I make a point of beating this one to death and then doing it again.
3 - 24 frames per second is professional, is cinematic and is artistic. - It IS gospel (apparently) but I de-deify it. It was an artifact of engineering decisions.
4 - Dethrone multimedia. It is a non-defined (always changing) term used to puff resumes and job applications but something we all do, we just don't always call it multimedia.
Cheers,
Mike
