Within the frame of the Milano Design Film Festival Greece—Athens Prelaunch mini-event series, beautiful and substantial synergies were born.
Our collaboration with the @athensmakerspace is one of them.
The first day of the MDFF Greece prelaunch week kicked off with the Seventh Art assuming an investigative, educative, informative, and engaging approach.

About Marwoolus Journey, Jasmin Schröder, Emanuele Marzi Italy 2015, 6’18’’
A natural waterfall is the scene chosen in which to tell of the inspirational motives behind the birth of an unpublicized and innovative material, fruit of the creative mind of designer Marco Guazzini. Prato, city of the textile industry. Pietrasanta, city of marble. These are the two realities motivating him to experiment with a material of wool and marble, Marwoolus. Remnants from the manufacture of coloured wool are recycled, imprinted deep into white marble, leaving a symbolic and real pattern desired by Guazzini. The material and the ensuing work also speak for values of economical and ecological sustainability.
Jackie Chan's Green Heroes , David Hay, China/Taiwan 2018, 44'
The famous Chinese actor Jackie Chan is joining forces with technological innovator and National Geographic Emerging Explorer, Arthur Huang. Together, they have invented the world's first fully mobile plastics recycling machine - The Trashpresso, which can turn waste plastic into multi-use tiles on-site. Now, they're on a mission to test it in one of the world's harshest environments – the Tibetan Plateau. The film focuses on motivating younger generations to change the way humanity approaches environmental challenges such as plastic waste.
About Learn.Make.Change Workshop:
The workshop highlighted a dynamic, targeted DIY culture through the possibilities offered by a modern, open to the community Maker Space workshop, hosted by the Athens Municipal Maker Space. Through training in the use of new technologies (maker learning), individual empowermen,t perspectives are combined with opportunities for social activism in matters of sustainability (design thinking and creative reuse) aiming at a broader understanding and change of mentality in our environmental behavior. Participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the digital equipment of the Maker Space like the laser cutters, the 3d printers and the CNC router. The workshop was run by the team of trained researchers from the TUC TIE Lab-Technical University of Crete, responsible for the Maker Space's facilities. The workshop outcomes were a construction that resulted from combining the participants' individual work.
The workshop is currently operated by the TUC TIE Lab scientific team from the Technical University of Crete with the support of DAEM, the City of Athens IT Company.
