After a successful career in business development, Tom Durant decided to use his skills to create a mission program that is working to create economic self-sufficiency in the community of Ranquitte, Haiti.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 80 percent of the population living in poverty amid little or no infrastructure. More than 95 percent of the land is deforested, and more than 80 percent of the watershed is barren.
The EcoCafé program involves cultivating land both for food farming as well as for the growth and export of Haitian coffee to the US and Europe. This is done while restoring the environment to a healthy state. Tom tells how his experience at the George Fox Evangelical Seminary is crucial to the success of the mission program
