First attempt at ever creating a short film. Me and some old high school friends have been considering the idea to film some material for fun and this competition got the creativity going. Because the contest is a documentary based idea, we thougt about doing a documentary of course... but felt that many would most likely go with that idea. We wanted to be creative, different, and wanted a story that would let us take more creative approaches and angles. We had lots of ideas, but we did not feel strongly about any of them until this idea rolled along. We tweaked the idea, molded it, and came up with the shot list. The premise let us work in creative ways to get angles and shots that would be impossible due to our limited numbers (3 people total). I rounded up some friends, borrowed some equipment (incuding RODE mics for the sound into a linear recorder and lighting) and hit up an appropriate alleyway for filming. We spent 8 hours filming, and I spent about 6 days in post process (after effects is a monster program... ).
Thank you to RODE Mic's and everyone else involved for the opportunity.
Looking back, there are some things I would do differently, but I'd say our adventure was a success. We hope you enjoy this short film and our first attempt at film making :)
