My name is Jon ‘Thunder’ Laramee, born in Burlington,VT. in 1984. Started snowboarding in 1995 when my dad started working at Burton screen printing boards (he has since left and I have past him in years at Burton!). Started skateboarding in 1997, I live to board all year long. I love coming up with ideas and helping make them a reality.
My favorite board is the Root 148. So versatile and stable in all conditions. I love the old school skate deck like shape, with the flatter tail and wide. So fun in pow, and hard pack. It can turn better than most boards that are 10cm longer and camber in my opinion.
If I could build a board and go anywhere it would be a Juice Wagon 157 and take it to Chile. The board shape just looks so fun and can go both ways. For me, a tapered board needs to be just as strong switch as regular, and that board fits those needs without compromising the tapered benefits. Chile has always intrigued me, just so close to the Pacific, and these huge mountains just seem to rise from nowhere. I love the feeling of being out somewhere remote, and enjoying riding the earth in the most natural sense.
If I could build a board for anyone, it would be Brushie. He is a Vermont native, and just brought so much passion and fun to the table. He was doing stuff way before everyone else, and you could tell he was doing it for himself. I respect that. It’s all about going out and having fun. Most important of all. I have had the privilege of making boards for Terje, Jake, and Downing; all which had a huge influence on me. I would have loved to build a board for Craig as well. But Brushie is the home town hero!
