This is from my long-term project in a series entitled "Real Fears and False Sciences". John is an Engineering friend of ours who was diagnosed with A.L.S., otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It is a slow progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain, the spinal cord, to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS is typically fatal. However there are medically documented cases of people in whom ALS 'burns out', stops progressing or progresses at a very slow rate. So it becomes quite a variable disease; no two people will have the same journey or experiences.
The series, "Real Fears and False Sciences" engages the social implications of fear-based situations, either self-propagated or instilled through environmental influences or social adaptations. Many people's insecurities often allow emotional reactions to dictate communication and actions typically resulting in constant chaos. There is often a lack of rational or logical thinking and the application thereof in the process. There are many who do not understand critical thinking or the process in which to generate its function. In the series, I interview people who have a productive mindset and obtain the abilities in which to compensate appropriately on a range of issues from typical to unusual.
In this series we also look at the unfortunately growing area of pseudoscience. There are topics involving pseudoscience which are being taught through our current communication mediums that do not follow the laws of scientific method or the current applications and understanding of the natural laws. More people are willing to accept certain information without doing even a fair amount of research. Usually the source sounds reliable or the information is presented in a way that limits the triggering or need of question.
We set out the task of illuminating the lack of empirical data to support the claims of many topics that affect our quality of life. Unfortunately Causation Realization becomes the new and accepted logic. Without the well understood and utilized scientific method, this computer and all its components and the understanding of its arrangement would not exist.
