I created "Both Ends" for Filmmaker Magazine, in early 2012, as a test of the Canon C300.
The entire short was shot in a single 16-hour marathon using entirely available light. It was all practical. This was a creative choice. I wanted to capture the day without any artificiality.
A lot of the scenes are darker than what people are used to -- especially at web resolution -- however, again, that was a creative choice. The opening scene, for instance, I wanted to look like it really would if the lights were out and your pupils were wide open.
The lenses were Canon 16-35mm and 24-70mm. Both are f/2.8. Which were not optimal for low light shooting. However, I wanted to use wide angle lenses -- and these were the best options I had. I used C-Log and never took the ISO above 3200 -- though that was a choice; I certainly could've gone higher and stopped down for a cleaner image, but chose not to.
It was edited on Premiere Pro CS5, and graded with Colorista II.
