The burgeoning financial crisis that came to a dramatic head in September 2008 after more than a year of volatile food, energy and commodity prices compounded a series of shocks already being felt around the world. While this crisis is affecting us all, it is the poorest who will bear the brunt of it. UNDPs Annual Report 2009, titled Living up to Commitments, chronicles the organizations continued efforts on behalf of the worlds poor in 2008, in the face of myriad challenges and crises.
From poverty reduction and MDG achievement efforts, to the promotion of democracy, environmentally sustainable development and coordination of UN crisis prevention and recovery efforts, UNDP is on the ground in more than 140 countries, working with people and their governments to build a better life for all.
