Ken Waters is a Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix. By collecting and interpreting data, he’s able to warn us when the next haboob rolls through Phoenix. Interestingly enough, the weather forecast was stereotypically hot-as-balls the day we visited the office, so he had some time to talk with us about his job.
The majority of the time is spent collecting data from satellites and radar, but The Big One rolls through The Valley in the form of flash flooding or a dust storm, Waters and team are prepared to issue lifesaving warnings.
