A Compass for the Seeker of Knowledge: Navigating Islamic Sciences and Related Disciplines

A MAB Youth Event

This event aims to help students navigate through Islamic sciences and other fields. It will cover a wide variety of topics including Fiqh, ‘Aqeedah, Tasawwuf, contemporary religions, Muslim world, history, philosophy and ethics to name a few. Islam is a way of life and studying it requires a holistic approach, which has been a legacy of classical scholars and traditional schools of the past. This course is an overview of that approach which we hope will inspire students to widen their horizons in their learning. It will empower future da’ees in their efforts on the path of God.

This course will be taught using contemporary teaching methods using power point presentation. Hand-outs and related written materials will be provided to participants.

The course will be taught by Sohaib Saeed, a Scottish Muslim writer and translator, presently in the final year of a degree at Al-Azhar University in Cairo (Faculty of Theology, Department of Quranic Sciences). He previously completed a BA and MSc in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. With a strong background in various local and national organisations, and experience delivering Friday sermons in several Scottish mosques, Sohaib is keen to articulate the positive, balanced message of Islam. His primary interest in research and education is the Qur'an: language, recitation, understanding and application (see Quranica.com). He is also passionate about outreach and dialogue in society and between faiths (see Dialogic.ws).

An introduction to the course will be presented in the form of a free public lecture on Friday, 14th September, 2012. This will be followed by a weekend course on 22nd and 23rd September. The cost of the weekend course is £20.
