I live in Southern California, so we have hummingbirds year round that live in our yard and feed from the feeders that my wife keeps filled with sugar water. One afternoon, a group of 4 hummingbirds were very active at the feeder in our front yard, so I set up my camera on a tripod a few feet away and started recording. I wanted to see if I could shoot video of them after dark, so I mounted an LED light panel on the hotshoe of my Sony A77, and shot video at 1080 60p, ISO 500, shutter 1/60, aperture 2.8. I slowed it down to 1/3 speed in Sony Vegas Pro 11, and used Twixtor to smooth out the video. The hummingbirds were quite comfortable with me, and allowed me to shoot video until about 7:30 PM before they retired for the evening.
