Clear Creek is a great river in Colorado and has seemingly endless access to catch lots of brown trout in a given day for fly fisherman. Beginning up above Georgetown, it flows through Idaho springs and then through clear creek canyon west of Golden before it finally enters town and flows into Ralston Creek and the South Platte River. The river is a typical small freestone creek and has a large population of willing brown trout to feed on streamer, dry and nymph fly patterns. Standard patterns will produce fish on this river, though due to the pressure it receives being so close to I-70, chainging the patterns and colors of your flies can make a real difference in your success on the river. Check out our tabs on access points, camping locations, and top fly patterns to use on the river. It’s a great place to go fish for the day or on your way to and from the mountains along I-70 when you have some time to burn fishing and you leave your rod in your car as you should so you can be preapared for any situation.
