My name is Darcy Balhas. I am 16 years old and I am still at school doing Yr 11 VCE. My mob is Wirajuri from NSW and I live in Sale, Victoria.
The last couple of weeks doing Blaktraks has been really good. I have learnt how to make and create music, which I have always wanted to know how to do. I have always like music and wanted to do something with it and Blaktraks has given me the chance to do so. Blaktraks has given me the opportunity to make a song and music clip and beats. I'd like to thanks Monkey, Rob, and Keith for their help in this.
Blaktraks is is a youth arts program run by Storyscape and the Koorie Heritage Trust. The program runs 2 days a week over 8 weeks, and encompasses storytelling, music, painting/stencil art, photography, and video production. The idea is that participants, through these various art forms, develop a story about themselves, exploring who they are/ their own identity. These stories are developed into songs/music and short films which are then performed/screened at an event. The aim is to improve confidence and skills, and provide employment pathways. Participants can also gain a Certificate 3 in Arts Administration.
