During the global pandemic and subsequent lockdown, seven Melbourne-based musicians collaborate through the internet to compose the soundtrack of our soul.
The Transmission Control Protocol project was undertaken over several weeks in response to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic quarantine lockdowns in Victoria, Australia. Using a custom audio software application connected to a private VPN, each of the eight musicians individually recorded their parts in improvised midnight recording sessions whilst national broadband network traffic was at the lowest congestion. Audio signals traveled between Metropolitan Melbourne, Gippsland, Castlemaine, and Hurstbridge - each instrument's voice being carried by the network as digital information before being captured and rendered in the following recordings.
