The Apache helicopter model did not have details on the cockpit interior, so, with the help of Fred Mantel (http://fredmantel.com/), I got a cockpit model by Providence FX (http://t3ds.com/109273) and set it up with a pilot figure.
I then took the pilot/cockpit, put it into VideoCopilot's Element 3D with the Apache model (as separate groups) and inserted a pilot/cockpit into the pilot and gunner positions. This required looking at the Apache model from every possible angle to make sure I had scale and position in 3D (or 2.5D) space.
One of the many, many nice thing about Element 3D is being able to position each model group individually and then animate them all as one unit in "world transform."
This doesn't have motion blur or other features enabled that will be in the final render...
Many thanks again to Fred Mantel! And Andrew Kramer and the VC Team!
