Made famous by Borat, loved by many, feared by a few (I hope i've got that around the right way), the mankini has proved itself the outfit of choice for three ocean bound adventurers.
The day you join the Dampier Mankini Kayak Club you're given a gift. Something to be proud of. Something to treasure. Something to share with the world...
That's right, you're given a lime green mankini.
Current club members have been meeting once a month since May for sunset trips out of Dampier. They head out in the early evening light for trips around the beautiful bays and islands dotting this part of Australia.
They're a welcoming bunch and anyone can join. It's open to newbies, novice paddlers, experienced ocean travelers and seasoned pros.
The only request made upon joining is that you, on at least one occasion, paddle out in your mankini. It's even OK to bend the rules and put your mankini on underneath your other clothes, as long as it's on at least once.
The 110% film project is about capturing people giving 110% to the sport they love. What's clear in this video is that these guys give that and some. They give 110% and they're doing it in mankinis.
One imporatant note is that a mankini is never worn, it's donned. Live in the Pilbara? Why not don your own mankini and head out down for a paddle this month?
PG rated comments in support of the club are welcome below, as are suggestions for a new club motto...
