Emerging Humanity is a youth-led 501(c)3 non-profit organization that designs and manages sustainable development projects.
Our current mission is to improve the overall quality-of-life for children in the city of Kisumu, Kenya. We provide learning materials, safe water systems, and sanitation facilities for children at primary schools in Western Kenya. We also conduct ongoing programs that seek to improve teaching capacity and parent participation.
Since we began our projects three years ago, our projects have directily helped over 8,000 school-aged children in the city of Kisumu, Kenya. In less than two weeks I will be leaving for Kisumu to help launch an exciting new initiative aimed at helping 3,000 more young children in a remote, poverty-stricken region outside of Kisumu, called Kajuluu.
Our goal for this summer is to rebuild 49 nursery schools, spread out over 3 remote mountain valleys located in the center of the continent. The combined enrollment of these nursery schools is 2,817 children, with over 100 drastically underpaid teachers who are struggling to look-after the students’ well-being. In most of the nursery schools, the children have to sit on the floor with no learning materials to stimulate their minds except the alphabet, which is written by hand on burlap sacks hanging on the mud walls.
