Here's another orbit cloud fractal rendered in Fractint using the mandel(fn||fn) formula. In this case, the formula starts off calculating a regular Mandelbrot fractal, switching to the tan function after an intermediate bailout value is exceeded. This means that the Buddhabrot fractal will be calculated first. At the start of the video, the switch to the tan function happens immediately, so the Buddhabrot takes a while to appear as the switching value is gradually increased. As it does, the Buddhabrot grows, as does a vision of the Mandelbrot set. It looks almost like a slow motion version of an exploding Buddhabrot, with the shock waves generated by the explosion taking the shape of the Mandelbrot set and wiping out everything in its path.
