A Hairy Woodpecker was being a nosey neighbor. The local Williamson's Sapsucker didn't appreciate the invasion of privacy. Quite a fun little interaction to witness. The nest was in a dead aspen in a very wet drainage in the Helena National Forest of Montana. This was one of many nests being monitored by a team of biologists from Montana State University's Ecology Department. There were a few other woodpecker nests nearby, I think I counted 3 species of woodpeckers in this drainage, as well as a Nuthatch nest. Quite the productive little community. Filmed in the summer of 2011.
