Vivian and Monroe Price spent childhood years in Cincinnati, Ohio, after their family escaped from Vienna, Austria as the Nazis came to power. Monroe was just a baby when his father was arrested on Kristallnacht. Although his father was released after 12 days, this became an additional and desperate signal to escape. Vivian was born after the family had settled in America.
Vivian Price is a Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at California State University, Dominquez Hills. Monroe E. Price retired from the faculty of the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
Vivian and Monroe will discuss their family history and differences between them in what it has meant to grow up in shadows of the Holocaust. Part of the conversation will draw on Monroe’s memoir: Objects of Remembrance, A Memoir of American Opportunities and Viennese Dreams.
