Our speaker at September Creative Talks was Lucas Grogan (lucasgrogan.com)

Lucas Grogan is an artist who grew up in Maitland and studied at the University of Newcastle. His style of work involves intricate detailing influenced by a myriad of cultures and traditions, melded with frank social commentary and subject matter. Now based in Melbourne, Lucas has forged a successful career branching out beyond exhibition work with a portfolio that includes commissions for wall and window murals, sculpture, album and magazine cover art and fashion fabric design. Newcastle Art Gallery acquired his textiles piece True Blue Babe in 2010.

Renew Newcastle presents Creative Talks, a series of breakfast lectures by people who have made a living from their creativity. Taking place on the first Friday morning of the month for three months (beginning September 2012) a well-regarded creative will be invited to speak for 20 minutes about the lessons they have learnt growing their art into a commercial success. This is followed by an audience Q&A and the opportunity to mingle with local creatives from a wide range of backgrounds. Attendance is free and breakfast is provided. Meet, greet and eat at Creative Talks.
