The sights and sounds of a summer afternoon in the South Devon countryside, seen through the eyes of a twelve-year-old boy.
Cast: Matthew Pike
The documentary footage of the haymaking was shot in July 2001, and it was over a year later that I thought of building a film around it by using Matthew to link it all together. Inspired by my love of Hitchcock's subjective visual style, and his use of POV shots in 'Rear Window' especially.
I've stood at that gate and watched similar scenes many times over the years.
Premiered at the 2007 SHOOT Totnes Short Film Festival, Dartington, UK - just over the hill from the location.
- Jessops Photography Award, 2008 Cotswold International Film and Video Festival, UK.
- Grand Prix, 40th KRAF International Short Film Festival, Croatia, 2009 (with 3 of my other films: 'Fear', 'Motion' and 'The Boy, the Bike, and the Apple').
