The fossil is a belemnite, Gonioteuthis quadrata (Blainville, 1827) from the Late Cretaceous (Upper Campanian, ca. 75 Myr) marl pit "Alemannia", Höver near Hannover, Germany. Its double tip (or apical collar) represents a growth anomaly, possibly due to inflammation. The animal did not survive for long after that.
