Nine Mile Canyon has recently been the subject of some controversy resulting from the government's decision to award oil and gas leases to private drilling interests. Too late for that! The place has already been significantly developed by the industry. That said, they have done a very good job of leaving small footprints, especially in consideration of the value of the native energy reserves they have tapped. Drilling and production techniques have vastly improved over the years and the greenies have much less to worry about as relates to the Nine Mile environment than they do about OPEC and the IMF. They won't be able to drive down here to enjoy the world's longest art gallery if they can't get a gallon of gas. That said, the Obama Administration, by executive fiat, has arbitrarily shut down all gas and oil exploration in the "Red Rock" country of Utah and Colorado, in spite of our national need for energy independence. We are now left to pray for global warming to heat our homes in winter.
