In Titus 3 we have different people mentioned, and how we as people of the Word should deal with them to turn our culture back to believing in the power of God’s Word.
The Submissive Man
The Salvaged Man
The Saved Man
The Working Man
The Divisive Man
The Fruitful Man.
1. Six Amazing Truths:
Jesus put us into a new relationship w/God – He changes from our Judge to our Father.
Love & grace are poured out upon us as gifts which we could never earn.
Everything we receive is through the power of the Word and the Holy Spirit.
God forgives our sins and never holds them against us, but see us in His Son.
Once a man was mourning gloomily to Augustine about his sins. Augustine said, “look away from your sins and look to God.”
God continues to do for us, justifying us by His grace so that we become heirs of all that is Christ’s
Hope of even greater things – The Christian is the man who knows “the wonder of past sin forgiven, the thrill of present life with Christ, and the hope of the greater life which is yet to be.”
2. "Christ died to be our Savior, and lives to be our Lord."
i. Embrace the power of Mercy to move Man
Did you ever hear of the mother who visited Napoleon on behalf of her condemned son? The emperor told her the young man had committed the same offense twice, and justice demanded the death penalty. 'But Sire,' she pleaded, 'I don't ask for justice -- only for mercy.' 'He doesn't deserve it,' said Napoleon. 'No, he doesn't,' she admitted, 'but it would not be MERCY if he deserved it.'
'You're right!' said the ruler quickly, I'll grant your request and show him mercy!
ii. Understand the Washing of Regeneration :
Amy Carmichael writes: If I say, yes I forgive, but I cannot forget as though the God who twice a day washed all the sands on all the shores of all the world could not wash such memories from my mind, then I know nothing of Calvary love. If the living God who made the tide and washes the shores daily cannot wash away from my mind the caustic remarks, the ugliness, the wrongs in someone else then I haven't even entered into Calvary love.
Washing of regeneration-one time occurrence. This is understood by the next clause which speaks of the continual renewing of the Holy Spirit.
The point here is that when a man accepts Christ as Savior and Lord, life begins all over again. There is a newness about life which can be likened only to a new birth.
Q: Have you been born-again?
“I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again (born from above).” (Jn.3:3)
iii. Live in the Renewing of the Holy Spirit
Jesus at the Last Supper washed the feet of his disciples, even Judas.
John 13:6-10 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”
iv. Rejoice that you Have Been Justified
Holman has the tense right “so that having been justified (at a point in the past) by His grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.
A Past action with continued benefit and force!
When you are born again, you are declared righteous because the Holy Spirit places you in Christ by faith. You old man is crucified, and you walk in newness of life. Through the providence and mercy of God, He brings you into growing, yielding loving relationship with His Son, whereby you are conformed to Jesus Christ.
Because of your righteousness in Christ, you are entitled to become the heir of Christ!
