Nano Urbanism (2011)
custom software, glass, projection, art technician : Hwayoung Lee, Sunwoo Yong
Nano Urbanism extends the idea of crossed dimension, in which the worlds with different dimensions and scales share similar aspects and characteristics of their existence and sustainment. In this work, the artist addresses the cross dimension of global urban network and that of nano molecules by juxtaposing molecular-structure-like glass installation and projected images of abstract urban network. The projected images visualize the organic nature of city network with the visual symbols of urban node having subtle movement and connections interweaved together. The work also displays current weather conditions of 10 cities including Seoul, Tokyo, New York and Cologne. Through the glass installation, the virtualilty of urban network is now taking corporeal elements of glass installation in which the projection of virtual images hit the surface of the glasses creating the physical phenomena of reflection, refraction and transparent shadows. In front of viewers, the work telemetrically unfolds the cross dimension of an enormous urban world and small world of molecules.
