“Unless a person comes to an understanding about the nature and conditions of rest and motion, he will meet with many difficulties in the discussion which follows.” (Plato, Timaeus 57d-58c).
The main focus of this research group will be the investigation of motion and rest; two, very central concepts that have kept scientists, philosophers and artists busy for centuries. These two concepts will be used as a starting point to develop a collective, performative kinetic environment. Ideas taken from the history of mechanics will serve as models for the invention and construction of an artifical, kinetic landscape. These ideas will also serve as inspiration to develop compositional tools to think about navigation routes through this invented space.
During four weeks we will shift, in non linear fashion, between the stages of creative process, from research, through invention and construction to execution.
