"Belaku", a local Kannada word meaning "Light" or "Illumination". The goal of The Belaku Trust is that their work will help people help themselves, and to that end we foster initiatives that promote individual and community involvement to bring about positive change. Collaboration with existing service providers, rather than duplicating services, is integral to these programmes.
The Belaku Trust works in villages in rural Karnataka, South India. They serve poor and marginalized households in Kanakapura taluk, with an emphasis on women and children.
As an AusAID sponsored new-media aid-worker I lived & worked with the NGO to build a photographic library, shoot a number of digital documentaries, & create a social media strategy including a new website.
As a one woman band, this is still very much a work in progress one year on. These are the beginnings of my effort to help The Belaku Trust tell the story of their important work in this remote part of the world.
