new audio edit of "Such a Silly Walrus Called John"
In 2001, I was commissioned to write a one actor play for me to perform, about the assassination of John Lennon, which I called "I am the Walrus". At the same time I wrote a song "Such a Silly Walrus Called John". This year (2010) I decided to make a video commemorating the 30th anniversary of Lennon's death, of me singing the song as soundtrack for images of artwork I had created in 1981, 1983 and 2001 which had the killing of Lennon as a theme.
The lyrics of "Such a Silly Walrus called….John"
Hey John, you should have just played music for fun,
You should never have tried to move the world on,
Whoa John! You got yourself shot, you stupid moron,
Is that the only way to end your song?
Oh you are such a silly, silly boy…called John.
Oh John, where did all you hippies go wrong?
Those flowers blowing in the wind have bloody well gone,
Sixties' Love and Peace was just a put on,
You died because someone thought you was such a con,
Oh you silly, silly-billy boy…called John.
John, did you have to be totally in love with death?
John, did you have to leave us so utterly bereft?
John, have you reached Heaven, 'cause that's too far out for us?
John, does God agree you're more popular than Jesus?
We miss you, You silly silly boy…called John,
'Cause those arseholes have turned another War on.
