Inspiration Behind This Weeks Video
The inspiration behind this week’s video is not attributed to any individual. Instead it was inspired by the need for a call to action.
With the presidential election full swing, it is hard not to notice all of the finger pointing taking place. Although I can understand the reasoning behind the motives and strategies being implemented by each party, it is frustrating to watch. The reason being that when thinking of important qualities of a leader, accountability and leading by your actions come to mind. Yet here we are watching two people, one of whom will be leading our country for the next four years, placing most of their focus on exploiting the other candidates weaknesses, to get the upper hand.
Yesterday I filmed the sixth video of be-influential Beliefs titled “Three Ways To Lead Gen Y”. Similar to the presidential election, it seems like there is a lot of finger pointing going on between generations. The one I hear the most is that those in Gen Y are self entitled and are only looking out for their best interests.
At a time where this country needs people who are accountable and lead by their actions, it seems like many are taking the easy way out. Today, don’t take the easy way out. Stop criticizing, condemning and complaining. Instead recognize the influence we have on others. If we want to see positive change in this country, it starts with us. Set the example and others will follow.
“We have the power to make this the best generation of mankind in the history of the world or make it the last.” - John F. Kennedy
Upon reading this quote by John F. Kennedy, my grandfather Pa replied with this statement:
Ending your message with a John F. Kennedy quotation reminded me of a book he wrote called “Profiles in Courage”. The books is comprised of 10 or 12 chapters, each one telling the story of a politician who said and did the right thing for the benefit of the country at the risk of ending their political careers and some of them paid the price for their courage and honesty by having their political futures either damaged or destroyed. Real courage is rare in politics and most of our current Senate and House representatives are cowards. It can be reasonably concluded that there first priority is to get elected and reelected, there second is Party loyalty and third doing what is right for the citizenry. These people send a lot of our young men and women to war for the benefit of our country and ask these military people to show courage and sacrifice their limbs and lives in the performance of their duties. How sad it is that these representatives who ask others to pay an enormous price for what they do, are unwilling to be courageous enough themselves in order to do what is best for the people they represent, rather than serving their own self interest. Human nature hasn’t changed since Adam and Eve were tossed out of the Garden of Eden so, realistically, we will continue to be represented by people who believe that courage is for other people, not themselves.
