Kinetic object for the 2nd Ruhrbiennal 2012 "Homo Ludens: Play, Dream & Trauma" by HuM-ART = Hermine Reidinger + Michael Sardelic, two austrian artists; video of the main exhibition at the Old Medical Institute, Dortmund
A mobile as a symbol of the human imagination, which can be set in motion actually slightly by a breeze and by the smallest incentive . As a result of permanent sensory overload in computer games and their stereotyped patterns of behavior that fantasy has become sluggish and unable to move. The imagination is atrophied, the joy of creative activity is lost. The ability to rise again in the game transforms players into a sense illusory world. Real feelings are blunted, at least as long as the player is in his fantasy world. This mobile has lost its original function, it serves as a carrier surface for a kinetic inertial object. Young people paint and/or write their feelings and emotions to their games on contour-cut action figure silhouettes from polystyrene. Thus, the game characters and action heroes become an individual and personal expression of their players, a personal identification object. These figures together form the immobilizing mobile, hanging in an aluminum cube.
