Tea: Tradition and Medicine

Tea: Tradition and Medicine

Penn Museum

Ancient Chinese medicine teaches that plants, herbs, and roots hold particular health and wellness benefits, with properties to aid digestion, boost lung function, promote circulation, and more. Central to Chinese wellness traditions, tea leaves have been harvested from the evergreen Camellia sinensis plant, native to East Asia, for nearly 5,000 years.

Join Victor H. Mair, Professor of Chinese Language and Literature in the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania, and Tracey Wang Stuligross, owner of TranquiliTEA Temple, to learn the history of tea and its medicinal properties. Enjoy a demonstration of traditional Chinese tea preparation after the presentation.
