The Cal Poly Symphony kicks off its season with music inspired by — and interpreted through — visual art. The centerpiece of the concert will be a collaboration with Sky Bergman, an internationally exhibited and published photographer who serves as the chair of Cal Poly’s Art and Design Department. Bergman will re-interpret Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” with her own images. Mussorgsky’s music itself was inspired by illustrations by the composer’s friend, Viktor Hartmann.
This video was shot at Inle Lake in Burma.
This is a collaboration between David Arivée, Director of the Cal Poly Symphony and an Associate Professor in the Cal Poly Music Department and Sky Bergman, Chair of the Art & Design department.
