The Chinese Wand exercises, or `Jiangan' (literally Health Wand) is an ancient calming therapy involving the manipulation of a light 4-foot pole, traditionally made of bamboo. It offers similar health benefits to its Chinese `cousins', Tai Chi, yet provides a more physical workout without being vigorous or taxing.
The video shows the 17 Exercises daily health & fitness maintenance routine. The ancient system co-ordinates slow diaphragmatic breathing with graduated stretching and strengthening exercises to promote circulation and stimulate the cardiovascular system. Although a gentle and meditative form of exercise, it has the muscle-toning and weight-loss potential of more robust gym workouts and is an ideal daily exercise routine or warm-up for a range of sports and martial arts classes.

Jiangan is a rare form of Qigong which shares some interesting similarities with the slightly more well-known `Tai Chi Ruler'. They are both based on Taoist Yoga principles of circulating qi within the body and also along the instrument.
