I was actually intending to do the CCC trail down in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie valley . . . . but couldn't find the trail head amongst the houses. So, I decided to try what has been described as one of the more brutal ascents in the region.
It was definitely brutal. Near the bottom and along the top of the ridge is good riding, but the bulk of it is too steep and rocky to ride up - you simply cannot keep traction in the rock - so it is about 4 miles of pushing your bike.
I would not recommend this ride unless: 1) You have a bike with shocks - at least in the front; 2) Your brakes are in excellent working order. You may want to carry an extra set of brake shoes. My disc brakes got hot enough to smoke.
I spoke with a fellow who was heading back down with a bulldozer. He had plowed the snow so the DNR could 4X4 up to do some repairs - to what, I don't know - but there is a heck of a lot of storm damage to just about every trail this year.
It's worth a try if you are looking for a good workout and a challenge.
