The Event of Theatre is a time-based illusion. The intermission in particular relies on two factors in order to seem instantaneous - the first being the enhanced speed of the stagehands working behind the curtain; the second being the audience’s acceptance of the illusion and suspended perception of time passing.
The Olympic Site is the stage upon which the Olympic Event is performed. The construction happens on set, behind the curtain. With the Park as stage, the people become the audience.
Act One ends, the Games come to a close, Intermission arrives; as the curtain, it is the boundary between construction and audience.
