In 2012 Animal Logic was invited to collaborate with the Sydney Opera House as Creative Partner, for the GRAPHIC Festival. Our role was to bring to life the concept and visual identity for the Festival.
Along with key elements produced for the print and online campaign, Animal Logic produced and directed the Animated short film – ‘Accidental Genius’, used to promote the festival around the world.
Directed by Toby Grime, the story was conceived around the idea of a juggler accidentally forming the Opera House after his blocks collapsed on him as he tried to impress a girl. Part love story, part infatuation, part boy meets girl. It’s a story of timeless ideals with a couple of twists that hint at the genius of Utzon himself and the creation of the Opera House. The whole piece has a theatrical tone and style that plays to the heart of what takes place at the Sydney Opera House.
Our quirky and twisted characters, Polly the girl and Oli the boy, were designed by Charles Santoso. They were given an offbeat style, which was picked up by Animation Director, Rob Coleman who worked with his team of Animators to bring this love story to life, while Technical Director, Manuel Macha ensured the visual detail and beauty of the piece wasn’t compromised!
