These were made for my portfolio DVD in spring 2008. The menu and the transitions are all connected here.
The concept is below:
My concept package showcases my influences of design, which are spirituality, nature, and Japanese grace. I don’t practice a specific religion, but I have a great respect for nature. I strongly appreciate what I have been given, the environment, opportunity, my culture, and even my race. Being Japanese is something that I can never get away from. I have never thought about my nationality when I was in Japan, but since I came to America, I have had so many opportunities to face to my race, nationality, and culture. After I spent about five years as a foreign art student, I feel I have finally found my identity. I interpret my nationality in a way other than samurai spirit or ninja skills. I think the most important way to describe who I am is to appreciate the Japanese ideas of beautify. Japanese culture appreciates subtleness, fragility, and evanescence. Because we have specific plants to appreciate every season, I am trying to show grace by using short-lived flowers with plants. This idea of grace also ties into my spirituality. With all the fundamentals of my identity, I would like to show my own diversity as a Japanese citizen.
